Why There is Conflict
There is way too much conflict in the world. Families hating each other for reasons that are unjustified. Contempt thrown onto a flame that bursts into a fire, and nobody wants to take the blame.
There are three reasons why we rage.
Love for the World
We believe that Jesus died for us. We want to have His Holy Spirit living within our bodies. We even want to change and be more like Jesus. But, we do not want to leave the world behind us to do all of this.
You Adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes
you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world
you make yourself an enemy of God. ~ James 4:4
That is a really hard verse to read. Adultery is the same thing as being unfaithful. We look down on any spouse that commits adultery. Finding digust in their actions. Saying, we would never do that. Yet, when we cheat on God, we say that it is okay.
You can not have friendship with the world and still follow God. This is such a problem, that James restated the phrase, “If you want to be a friend of the world you make yourself an enemy of God.” Not only did they suffer from wanting to be part of the world back then, but we still do today.
It is so hard to not be part of this world, when it is in your face everyday. From social media, to the news, even to what is on the radio. Gossip about others and what they have done wrong, runs rampant in our society. So much so, that our current president deems it okay to spew hate speech through Twitter. We are creating contempt in our homes, towns, cities, all on our own, when we allow what the world is doing to creep into our lives.
When we follow the world we make ourselves an enemy of God. An enemy is someone who hates another, that harms or threatens someone, or a group of people against whom another group is fighting a war.
I would not want to be an enemy of God. Too often I find that I am. I struggle with wanting to be liked by everyone. To the point of saying or doing things that are not godly. I long to have true confidence in my status of being a child of God. Slowly, realizing that I have to lose my ideals of popularity.
Do you think that the scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate
that the Spirit he has place within us should be faithful to him ~ James 4:5
We want to be a follower of God without taking the time each day to read the Bible.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good,
pleasing and perfect will. ~ Romans 12:2
To be transformed by the renewing of your mind, means to spend time daily with God. Reading His word, praying to Him, and listening for what He is trying to tell you to do.
How many times have you woken up with the attitude of, today I am NOT going to yell at my kids? That is your goal. You are sure that you can do that today. The sunshine is out. You feel happy. What could go wrong?
By 9:00 in the morning you find that none of the kids have picked up their breakfast, they haven’t gotten dressed for the day, or brushed their teeth. You have gone over the morning routine so many times that it bothers you to no end, when you have to say it again. “HAVEN’T I TOLD YOU GUYS ENOUGH TIMES ABOUT WHAT WE ARE TO DO IN THE MORNING? WHY ARE YOU PLAYING WITH TOYS AND NOT GETTING THE THINGS DONE IN THE MORNING THAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO GET DONE? YOU COULDN’T EVEN PUT YOUR BREAKFAST DISHES AWAY!! PUT THOSE TOYS AWAY AND GET MOVING!!! NOW!!!”
Well the no yelling notion just went out the window. Then you feel guilty for yelling. The day starts out on a bad note. And you wonder why you can’t stop yelling at your kids?
God told you that you had to renew your mind. For most of us that means daily. We need to realize that God’s Word is a light to our feet and a lamp to our path. When things become dark and dreary, His words will come to you, reminding you of how we should deal with each situation throughout our day. And when the day seems long, and your patience is running low, that is when we need to stop and pray. Quick prayers as we do the dishes, make dinner or fold the clothes. Letting the Holy Spirit renew your energy, like a shot of espresso for the soul.
We are to be humble before the Lord. Humble means to not think of yourself as better than other people. Humility has to do with submission, which is not a word that is thought of very highly in our society. We are to look out for number one, ourself, because if we don’t, who will?
This is not how God works.
“So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.” ~ Matthew 20:16
That’s hard to see, when others around you seem to have a better life. Just look at how happy they look on Social Media. There marriage is perfect, their kids look so happy and obedient, they took the best vacation this year, while you are stuck at home doing laundry and dishes for the third time that day. AWWWW!!
That is looking through our life with our human eyes. God’s eyes would see it like this: I am so happy that they were finally able to have date night so that they can strengthen their marriage. They have had a rough year and could use some good times together. The kids really enjoyed kayaking with their parents, which is good because their oldest has struggled with depression for quite awhile, while their youngest seems to have nightmares a lot lately. I am glad that they finally went on their beach vacation that they have been planning and saving for, for over three years. Seems like the had great weather, stayed at a wonderful condo, and grew closer as a family.
Submission means putting others before yourself. That can be really hard to do, because our flesh (sin nature) wants to satisfy our own desires. We need to be happy first, right? Wrong!! Happiness is just an emotion that flutters in when it feels like it and just as quickly runs away. But JOY, now that is ever lasting. JOY is when we follow God and Jesus first. When we put into practice what God’s Word tells us to do. Then we look around at the needs of others and meet those first, before finally meeting our needs last.
I stink in this area. I wake up in the morning with a whole checklist of things that have to be done that day. If I could just finish that list, I will feel like I had conquered the day. But what usually happens is that, my kids will start fighting and I will get angry, because now my timeline for completing my checklist is off. Or, someone will call and need help with something and I will begrudgingly do it, knowing that MY checklist is still not completed. Or, my husband will come home and want sex, and I will get all huffy and puffy, because that is not on my checklist, and I do not have time for that today. Forgetting to even read one word from the Bible or pray throughout the day. And I wonder why I am so unhappy in my life???
To stop the conflict in our life, we must first start with reading God’s Word. Letting it sink in. Obeying and doing what He is asking us to do. Letting the ideals of the world fade away, till all you are left with is the Holy Spirit to guide you and not your sinful flesh.
Then we need to start submitting to our Lord and Father, it makes it much easier to submit to other people’s will. Making sure that we are putting our kids and spouse before ourself each day. God gave us our family, to put them first. Not to be an after thought.
Before finally, allowing yourself to have time to renew and refresh yourself each day. It is more than okay to rest. To take care of yourself. But not at the expense of neglecting those around you.
I know that conflict is hard to get rid of, but with God’s help nothing is impossible!!
May God bless you and keep you,
